Judy and Lincoln Tafoya
       Santa Clara

 

Judy and Lincoln Tafoya do traditional carved Santa Clara black pottery. They are the fourth generation of potters following the Tafoya traditions.  An interview with Judy and an example of her work can be found in the book Fourteen Families in Pueblo Pottery. They are also featured in the 1998 spring issue of American Indian Art. A piece of their pottery was selected in 1996 to be on permanent display at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque, NM. In 1997 they earned awards at the following shows: 26th Annual Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show, San Ildefonso Pueblo,NM; 15th Annual Mesa Verde Indian Art Show, Mesa Verde, CO; 7th Annual Jemez Red Rock Show, Jemez Pueblo, NM; United Tribal Indian Art Exposition and Market, Bismark, ND.

They have taken first place awards two years at the Santa Fe Indian Market

       Anita Suazo
       Santa Clara

 

Anita Suazo is a contemporary master potter. When she was a small child she began learning potting techniques from her mother, noted potter Belen Tapia, and has actively worked at her craft since 1955.  Today Anita and her husband, Joseph, create top-quality red carved, red polychrome, black carved, carved two-tone and black-on-black pots. They still dig their own clay from the soil of the Santa Clara Pueblo.  Anita is a multiple winner at Indian Market in Santa Fe and has a dozen awards from the Eight Northern Pueblo Indian Arts & Crafts Shows.  Both the Heard Museum and the Smithsonian Institution have chosen examples of her work for their permanent collections

Glenda Naranjo
       Santa Clara

 

Glenda Naranjo is one of the fine potters from the Naranjo family of Santa Clara, New Mexico.   She was born on July 8, 1953 and has been creating pottery since 1970.  She is the daughter of Flora and Ramon Naranjo, famous potters in their own right. Glenda creats both black-on-black and polycrome redware. Her carvings and brilliant finishes distinguish her work. She took awards at both Santa Fe Indian Market and the New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque. Both the Heard Museum in Phoenix and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. have examples of her work.
